So after an unusual summer thus far, Steve and I decided to have a “carpe diem” moment. We decided on a whim that we would travel to Ontario and visit our family. (Now I should mention this all came about because the week at paintball camp Steve was to speak at was cancelled due to a powerful storm, brought on by hurricane Arthur, that caused extensive damage and power outages throughout the Maritimes.) We had the van packed already so…why not?!
Zane Grey audio books, Sirius radio, and lots of snack food accompanied our 13 hours of travel. There was also, at times, the sounds of snoring being uttered from the big bear beside me. We told no one of our plans so the surprise was PERFECT!
Laughter has abounded greatly. The slower pace and lack of routine has been a nice change too. We have been supporters at baseball games for our nephew and brother-in-law, played games, visited the library, swam, and Aunt Julie was taught how to throw (not like a girl). We even took in a Jays game. Yes, we were part of the crowd that cheered our team to victory over the Rangers!
Our time is only half over so we know there will be many more memories made. My most special memory thus far is our drive home from the ballgame. We were chatting, laughing, and listening to the radio when “We Believe” by the Newboys came on. The volume was turned up and on the chorus we all chimed in with voices in one accord (perfect pitch was not the point). How awesome it is to be singing about our Lord and Saviour together as a family. I had to stop and listen – it was an overwhelming feeling! These are moments to live for and by. For those that don’t know this song, the following is what our family believes…
“We Believe”
In this time of desperation
When all we know is doubt and fear
There is only One Foundation
We believe, We believe
In this broken generation
When all is dark, You help us see
There is only One Salvation
We believe, We believe
We believe in God the Father
We believe in Jesus Christ
We believe in the Holy Spirit
And He’s given us new life
We believe in the crucifixion
We believe that He conquered death
We believe in the resurrection
And He’s comin’ back again, we believe
So, let our faith be more than anthems
Greater than the songs we sing
And in our weakness and temptations
We believe, We believe!
We believe in God the Father!
We believe in Jesus Christ!
We believe in the Holy Spirit!
And He’s given us new life!
We believe in the crucifixion!
We believe that He conquered death!
We believe in the resurrection!
And He’s comin’ back again!
Let the lost be found and the dead be raised!
In the here and now, let love invade!
Let the church live love our God will see
We believe, We believe!
And the gates of hell will not prevail!
For the power of God, has torn the veil!
Now we know Your love will never fail!
We believe, We believe!
We believe in God the Father
We believe in Jesus Christ
We believe in the Holy Spirit
And He’s given us new life!
We believe in the crucifixion!
We believe that He conquered death!
We believe in the resurrection!
And He’s comin’ back,
He’s comin’ back again!
He’s comin’ back again!
We believe!
We believe!
