The title for this post came when I opened up my day planner the other week. I realized I had never filled in any of the information on the front page. Obviously Steve was the first person to come to mind to notify, but what if he was with me? Maybe I should put my parents, or my sister, or…and the list could go on. This got me thinking about our most recent hospital stay (we call it our 2nd home – our vacation cottage). Life was going along just fine and then out of nowhere…WHAM! Steve woke up one morning with a serious kidney infection which made its way into the blood. There was no early signs or symptoms – it just happened. The frustrating thing was it came at a very bad time (in our minds). There were things to do, work prep for the new school year, staff retreat, etc… We did eventually notify some friends who visited often and gave words of encouragement. The neat thing, that came to my mind when reading my day planner, was that God did not need to be notified. He already knew what was going to happen before it even happened. We could then go to Him saying “this is no surprise to You. What do You want to teach us?” It’s so neat to know there is Someone who sees the big picture and as we go through things we can turn around and see how all the pieces fit. I am so very glad that we never have to notify the Lord as to what is going on in our lives. He has been, is, and always will be with us as His children. We did learn many things during this time and God used that time to introduce us to a wonderful nurse who encouraged us and was in need of some encouragement herself (we pray for her daily). One wouldn’t think a sick person could be used to encourage, but it happens. He also used this time to encourage me to start this blog (through the prompting of others). If we have seen good come out of trials and tragedy should we not share it with others?
