I am sure you have heard the quote,
“Families are like fudge –
mostly sweet,
with lots of NUTS!”

Or what about,

“My family is temperamental.
Half temper.
Half mental.”

These do ring true for most of us and tend to bring a smile to stern faces or perhaps even a slight chuckle. However, I have another one that, I believe, is even more true and is a great picture of my life.

“Families are like quilts,
stitched together one piece at a time.”

Isn’t that great?!

Picture your family tree and each person a piece of fabric – different shapes, different designs. (Each piece comes with it’s own uniqueness and story to tell.) Then picture each piece being sewn together to form a larger piece of amazing craftsmanship. A masterpiece that, when you step back and look, fits perfectly together. Designed by the master quilter, God!

Steve and I have been blessed beyond measure with our family (immediate and extended). Each day they become dearer and more important to us. It is a privilege to share in their ups and downs, trials and triumphs. What a joy to encourage them and to pray for/with them. Currently, we have 10 highlights to our family – 4 nieces and 6 nephews, ranging from 3 months to 15 years old. We are so incredibly blessed to be part of their lives. One proud aunt and uncle here!! They always know the right thing to say to tug at our heartstrings. However, with many miles between us, it is hard not to miss them. We are extremely grateful for the telephone and Skype. These two technological advances have allowed us to be part of important moments and those just-because-moments. To us “family is not just important, it’s everything!”
